Chaffee County residents near the Mountain View fire northwest of Buena Vista remain under evacuation orders.
Sheriff officials said the fire is 50 percent contained as of Friday morning.
"It is windy," the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office posted on Facebook. "We do have crews that are actively on the ground working and we still have a chopper working the fire from the state."
The fire, near the Mountain View Estates subdivision, grew to 60 acres on Thursday, according to the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office. Mandatory evacuations were in place since then. All residents within a 5-mile radius of the fire are still under pre-evacuation notice.
Chaffee County government is directing evacuees to the Chaffee County Public Safety Complex at 200 Steele Drive in Buena Vista.
Chaffee County is posting updates to its Facebook page, including resources for those who need to move their animals to safety. The Humane Society will take smaller animals, large animals can be taken to the Buena Vista Rodeo Grounds.
Officials say two homes have been lost in the fire and 50 are within the evacuation zone. They said at 8 p.m. Thursday that they don't believe the fire has entered public land.
