The American with Disabilities Act was signed into law more than 30 years ago. It promises people living with disabilities equal access in many areas of life. But even today, hurdles exist for things that people without disabilities may simply take for granted, like getting to work, using public transportation or evening accessing the restroom.
On this episode of Real Talk, we share stories of three Coloradans who each have physical disabilities, and have made it their lives' missions to humanize the experience of living with a disability and advocate for positive change.
This episode features interviews with Stewart Tucker Lundy, a filmmaker and storyteller who is on the board of Rocky Mountain Human Services; Dawna Callahan, a professional athlete and consultant; and Chris Hinds, a Denver city councilman who focuses, among other things, on improving accessibility for people with disabilities throughout the city.
Real Talk airs on CPR News and KRCC on Fridays at 3:30 p.m. and Mondays at 6:30 p.m.
