Walk into Disneyland and you might think, "this feels like Old Town Fort Collins." And you’d be right! When Walt Disney started planning his first theme park, he wanted a friendly reminder of days gone by. “Main Street U.S.A. will bring back happy memories,” he said, and turn back the calendar.
One of his designers had the answer. Harper Goff’s memories of his childhood in Fort Collins -- brick storefronts, the city’s Old Firehouse and Linden Hotel. Disney loved it. So much so some buildings, like the old city hall and bank, were turned into near-exact replicas. Disney’s childhood hometown in Missouri also shaped the overall look. But Fort Collins charm helped bring the heart and soul of small-town magic to life. And because of that, every year, millions get a taste of Colorado magic when they walk through the iconic entrance to Disneyland.
