Colorado Public Radio (CPR) is hiring a fellow for the Max Wycisk Fellowship for Digital Audiences for Fall 2025.
This is not a remote position. This role is expected to work from our newsroom in downtown Denver upon starting. The Fellowship runs from September 2025 to August 2026.
About the Position:
This fellowship opportunity prepares the next generation of public media journalists. In this role, you will contribute to CPR’s core mission of delivering meaningful news to Coloradans using the human voice in all its forms. In this capacity, we will train you on what that means and how to achieve it.
In this fellowship, you will participate in CPR’s digital audience work by attracting, earning the trust of and developing relationships with audiences. You’ll learn to measure the newsroom's success through key performance indicators and will produce clean and confidence-inspiring digital content on multiple platforms.
The fellowship is specifically designed to support recent graduates, early career journalists, those who have had only freelance experience, OR folks looking to pivot into the field of journalism. If you have 2+ years of professional experience in the audio journalism field or in a newsroom, we ask that you apply to other full-time CPR newsroom positions.
Key learning objectives for the experience include -
- Developing digital production skills through contributing to CPR’s web content, social media, and newsletters.
- Developing practical audience thinking skills (who is this story meant to serve, how might that impact how and when we produce and distribute it, how would we know if we were successful?).
- Developing skills to manage social media accounts for a public media group and assess engagement metrics and Google Analytics.
- Developing editing and style judgment.
- Develop audience-focused digital story writing skills, and practice delivering content on a daily deadline
About You:
You are a recent graduate or early career journalist who is looking to further develop your skills in journalism. Or you might be newer to journalism, but want to pivot into a career in this field because you already have translatable writing skills and an understanding of the core ethics and principles of journalism. You're self-motivated, creative, curious, and interested in supporting journalism’s role in shaping democracy and educating communities.
You have experience coordinating social media accounts in some capacity and have thought through how to reach audiences via these platforms. You have AP writing experience with things like news copy and newsletter development. You have familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems. Deadline driven work is familiar to you and you’re able to analyze data effectively to drive decisions under deadline. Finally, you should have a knowledge of digital literacy as it relates to learning new tools, software and apps and have an understanding of ethics around artificial intelligence, headlines and photo images will create a solid foundation for the fellowship to build on.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of fair and accurate reporting is required. This experience could include writing for a news website or generally having a grasp of constructing an argument and the ability to write in the voice of a publication.

- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required as this role needs access to reliable transportation to respond with urgency to news events. Newsroom vehicles may sometimes be available for your use.
