Centennial, Colo., June 20, 2024 - Colorado Public Radio’s board of directors met today for its annual meeting, at which the work plan and budget were approved for the new fiscal year starting July 1. The meeting also involved the welcoming of three new members, Marla Jones Newman, Sharon Schneider and Jeff Tieman, whose terms began at the end of the meeting.
“I left our annual meeting confident that CPR is on a sustainable path as a Colorado news institution,” said Bradley Greenwald, founder and managing partner of Hilltop Venture Partners, whose term as board chair and board member ended at this meeting. “While it is no secret that this is a challenging time for media organizations, the organization’s leaders have laid out a judicious plan and budget for the upcoming year that I believe will position CPR well for future growth.”
“I am proud to serve as the next board chair for CPR, and I’m thrilled to welcome these three new, talented members,” said new Board Chair Lori Bergen, founding dean of the College of Media, Communication and Information at the University of Colorado Boulder. “Their experience with leadership, fundraising, media and more will contribute greatly to our efforts to guide Colorado Public Radio and grow its services to reach more Coloradans with vital news, information and music.”
Marla Jones Newman is the vice president, people and culture of Mother Jones/Reveal, a reader-supported investigative news organization and America’s longest-established investigative news organization. She is an alumna of the Maynard 200 Executive Leaders training program and has over 20 years of HR experience in for-profit and nonprofit organizations. She has a wealth of experience in shaping high-performing cultures, implementing robust professional development programs, and employing best human capital practices to attract and retain talent. She has created and implemented Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity and Belonging initiatives throughout her career. Marla is committed to supporting, growing and advocating for a vital and diverse workforce.
Sharon Schneider is the founder of Integrated Capital Strategies, LLC, a consulting firm that helps founders and family offices create positive social change using an expanded toolbox of resources and strategies that spans the return spectrum from grants to market-rate investments. She is also the author of "Handbook for an Integrated Life: a Practical Guide to Aligning Your Everyday Choices with Your Internal Compass," a #1 New Release on Amazon that helps individuals live into their values the same way her consulting helps business owners and family offices. Most recently, she launched the "Socially Responsible Business" livestream on the VoiceAmerica network and co-founded the Executive Director Institute, a four-month bootcamp for philanthropy executives that provides targeted technical and experiential education to empower key donor staff to deploy dollars quickly and with confidence into high impact nonprofits and social enterprises.
Jeff Tieman is the president and chief executive officer of the Colorado Hospital Association (CHA), which he joined in August 2022. In his role at CHA, Jeff provides leadership and direction for the association’s work to serve and advocate for the state’s 100+ hospitals and health systems. Prior to CHA, Jeff served as the president and CEO of the Vermont Association of Hospitals and Health Systems and as the chief of staff for the Catholic Health Association in Washington, D.C., a national organization representing more than 700 hospitals. Earlier in his career, Jeff spent four years as a reporter for Modern Healthcare magazine, two years in Chicago and two as Washington Bureau Chief. Jeff received his master’s degree from George Washington University’s School of Political Management in 2014. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Colorado College in 1996.
Bradley Greenwald, who most recently served as chair, Robert Contiguglia and Jack Finlaw have completed their two terms on the board. Linda Appel Lipsius, Ricardo Baca, Lori Bergen, Steve ErkenBrack and Sherisse Hawkins were elected to a second board term. For Fiscal Year 2025, Lori Bergen is the chair, with Rishi Hingoraney as vice-chair, Ricardo Baca as treasurer and Deidre Johnson as secretary.
