Centennial, Colo., Jan. 14, 2026 — Colorado Public Radio (CPR) announced the launch of Colorado 150 Postcards, a refreshed and expanded version of its popular Colorado Postcards audio series. The project celebrates the Colorado Sesquicentennial, the 150th anniversary of Colorado’s statehood, with 150 postcard-style stories, a new visual look, a new online experience and community partnerships with History Colorado and local schools.
The updated Colorado Postcards experience is designed to share Colorado’s people, places and history through short stories that highlight moments both familiar and unexpected. Listeners can explore the collection on CPR’s newly redesigned Colorado Postcards landing page, where new postcards will be posted after airing on the radio.
“Colorado’s 150th anniversary gives us a special opportunity to showcase the stories that shape our state,” said CPR’s Program Director and creator of the popular Colorado Postcards series, Gillian Coldsnow. “This project brings together history, community and storytelling in a way that feels both fresh and deeply rooted in what makes Colorado unique.”
Throughout 2026, CPR will also collaborate with partners including local schools and History Colorado. Displays featuring a select group of historic Colorado 150 Postcards are now available to view at the History Colorado Center. This year also marks the 250th anniversary of the United States, making Colorado the only state that will observe twin anniversaries, referred to as a sesquisemiquincentennial. History Colorado is celebrating this unique milestone with exhibits and events all year long.
CPR’s Colorado Postcards team is also working with a handful of local schools, starting with Hackberry Elementary in Arvada, to help students develop, write and present their own postcards to tell stories of their home state. Plus, CPR News will feature a variety of stories about Colorado's statehood throughout the year.
New Colorado Postcards merchandise items are now available in the CPR Shop to commemorate the launch of this project and this statehood milestone for Colorado.
